Outdoor Play in Outside School
Hours Care |
In my experience, most children
in Outside School Hours Care love being outside. They climb, leap, run,
hang, bounce, relax, imagine, create, take risks, make decisions and learn
so much from being able to explore independently, to discover and to learn
through developmentally appropriate play.

Meeting the Needs of
Older Children in School Age Care |
One of the challenges of working
with the wide range of ages in child care is the need to provide an
environment for the 9 to 12 year olds that can take into account the
idiosyncrasies that are a feature of this age group, particularly peer
pressure and the need for social acceptance. Older school age children need
an environment in which their individual developmental needs and specific
interests are catered for by positive, knowledgeable and sensitive adults.

Safety Versus
National Standards |
Complying with National
Standards is not the same as providing a safe service. You could be found to
be negligent or more importantly be responsible for an injury to a child you
are caring for even if you meet the standards.

Out of School Hours Services - Our
Shared History |
This article was written for the
1993 National Out of School Hours Services Conference by Judy Finlason
(Network of Community Activities). It provides a glimpse of the history of
Out of School Hours services. Even though this article was written some time
ago, it is still quite relevant today.
