About the Event

ACT Behaviour series: Part 1 - Behaviour Foundations

Understanding behaviour starts with understanding children. In OSHC settings, behaviour is often a form of communication shaped by a child’s development, relationships, environment, sensory experiences, and capacity for regulation. This session explores the “why” behind behaviour and supports educators to move beyond reactive responses toward approaches that are relational, responsive, and inclusive.

Educators will explore how stress, sensory processing, emotional regulation, unmet needs, and environmental factors can influence behaviour, while building practical strategies to create safe, supportive, and engaging environments for all children. Drawing on trauma-informed and neurodiversity-affirming practice, the session will examine the role of co-regulation, connection, supervision, and responsive environments in supporting children’s wellbeing and participation.

The National Outside School Hours Services Alliance (NOSHSA) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to culture, land, waterways and communities.  We pay our respects to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present.
