The regulatory landscape for education and care services continues to evolve. Changes to legislation, regulatory approaches and enforcement activity are creating new considerations for approved providers.

In this practical session, Georgina will examine recent developments and their implications for outside school hours care services, including:

• changes in regulatory approaches over the past 18 months and recent amendments to the National Law and National Regulations

• key areas of regulatory risk for outside school hours care services

• how regulatory action operates in practice, including Show Cause Notices, Prohibition Notices, prosecutions, and the suspension or cancellation of service approvals

• practical guidance on responding to regulatory authorities and remaining prepared in an evolving regulatory environment.

Georgina Odell is a Consultant at Meridian Lawyers and a corporate and commercial lawyer with 25 years’ experience advising childcare and health businesses.

She works with approved providers across Australia, including outside school hours care, long day care and family day care providers, advising them on commercial and regulatory matters and representing them in regulatory proceedings.

Georgina’s experience includes responding to Show Cause Notices, acting in matters involving Prohibition Notices, and seeking internal and external reviews of regulatory decisions. She also represents providers under investigation by the Commonwealth Department of Education regarding the administration of the Child Care Subsidy.
