About the Event

NOSHSA SA Conference

NOSHSA SOUTH AUSTRALIA Presents:

CONNECT LEAD EXCEED!

This OSHC conference provides a long overdue opportunity for OSHC leaders in SA to connect with others professionally and lead from the front – to drive quality improvement and inspire the sector!

Conference Program

Becoming a great leader – NOSHSA Chair Kylie Brannelly

Kylie will guide you through an interactive self-assessment leadership tool to identify your leadership and management strengths, gaps and opportunities. This session will support all leaders at all stages of their journeys, whether that may be emerging, intermediate or experienced. Discover where your leadership strengths lie, and how you can better address any gaps.

Cultural Confidence Training with John Briggs

John has a wonderful presentation style that immediately makes you feel safe and welcome, while developing your confidence and knowledge to better understand and support First Nations peoples.

The session aims to:

  • instil cultural confidence, enabling participants to reflect and implement their learnings

  • provide a development opportunity to better understand First Nations peoples, cultures and communities and how this relates to you in your service and more personally

  • talk about the consequences of racism, segregation and slavery in a culturally safe environment

  • improve our knowledge on why Australia has reconciliation with First Nations peoples, cultures and communities today.

National Excellence in Action

Hear from the leaders of two of Australia’s most highly regarded OSHC services:

  • MacGregor OSHC (QLD) – This service recently presented at an OSHC conference in Sweden regarding their research project on children’s perceptions of OSHC educators. It is recognised for exceeding quality standards through creative, child-led learning and a distributed leadership model.

  • Forrest OSHC (ACT) – Recognised nationally for its innovative and child-led approach, Forrest OSHC has been rated Excellent three times by ACECQA and continues to thrive as a community run service. Educational Leader Katya Strahan will share Forrest OSHC’s road to excellence and how the team has embedded playwork principles at the heart of their practice—placing children’s need for risk, agency, and authentic play at the centre of their program. Katya will explore how a shared philosophy of progressive, reflective practice has guided educators to create dynamic learning environments where children are free to lead their own play.

Panel Discussion – Tensions Between Quality and Compliance: Finding the Balance

Join Rhonda Livingstone (ACECQA’s National Education Leader), representatives from the Regulatory Authority, and experienced OSHC leaders as they unpack the tensions between regulation and quality, and how OSHC leaders may showcase their services’ strengths — facilitated by NOSHSA chair Kylie Brannelly.

Showcasing South Australian Innovation – OSHC Action Research PresentationsBe inspired by the latest practitioner-led research from SA OSHC services, featuring five diverse and thought-provoking projects:

  • Social Media and OSHC - How can social media positively influence how OSHC is viewed and valued by families, educators, and the wider community?

  • Single-gender OSHC services - What does quality care look like in a single-gender environment?

  • Sensory Spaces for OSHC - Designing and using a sensory space for primary-aged children with additional needs in an OSHC setting.

  • Inclusion in OSHC - Effective inclusion practices in OSHC.

  • Children’s Resilience - How can an OSHC service help build children’s resilience?

The National Outside School Hours Services Alliance (NOSHSA) acknowledges the Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and recognise their continuing connection to culture, land, waterways and communities.  We pay our respects to them and their cultures, and to the elders both past and present.
